Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog.
My name is Tatiana, I am the Director of the "Project for Kids".
"Project for Kids" is a NGO whose mission is to help children living in orphanages in Russia. We are located in Nizhny Novgorod. We operate since 2007 and help 11 orphanages in Nizhny Novgorod region.

Our key focus areas include:

1. Social adaptation of parentless children
2. Increasing awareness about adoption
3. Publishing informaiton about children in need of parents (based on our agreement with the local authorities)
4. Raising money to cover special needs of orphans

We have a website (which is in Russian, as I haven't had enough time yet to translate it into English). However, you can always contact me in English or French either via the website or by leaving a message here in my blog. The website address is www.deti.nnov.ru.

We are a volunteer organisation with 50+ members, most of them are Russian.

What help do we need?
1. Right now we are raising money for a number of projects:

- Kids for Environment Protection. In brief, children clean city parks of litter (there are quite a few heavily littered parks where we live). Then, they put up platelets with the following message: "We cleaned the park. Please leave it clean as well. Children from Orphanage No X". Kids get paid for their work. This project solves two goals: teaching children that most things don't come for free; teaching them to protect the environmemt. Approx. budget: 1,000 Euros per project (40 kids, two months).

- Support of families raising children with special needs. Intellectually challenged children living in orphanages have almost no chance for a successful future. They end up segregated in special schools, and even if the mental disability was wrongly diagnosed, there is no chance for the child to return to a regular secondary school. At the same time, there are families willing to take such kids in a foster family, rehabilitate them and give them a chance for a good education, tailored to the child's individual needs. However, foster families do not get adequate support from the government and cannot afford costly rehabilitation of special children. There are potential parents who, with adequate support, are willing to raise children with mental disabilities.
We suggest financing the medical and educational needs of such families, giving 10 children a chance for a better future.
Approx. budget per 1 year: 20,000 Euros per 10 children.

Contact me to learn more about these projects!

2. You can always donate money to cover the children's educational and recreational needs by way of creative workshops, guided tours, weekend trips, birthday gifts etc.
Our webmoney account:

R537343601846 (Russian Rubles)

In my blog, I write about the "Project for Kids" advances as well as my everyday life. I mainly write in Russian but have occasional English posts as well (hope to have more of them in the future). To find my English entries, browse by the english tag.

Спасибо за бдительность, но ты не права. См., например, тут: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-who3.htm

[Q] From John Dear, Scotland: A magazine photograph was captioned ‘The car whose interior was destroyed by fire’. Is there a good alternative to humanising the car? ‘The car, the interior of which was destroyed by fire’ is a little long-winded.

[A] Yours is an interesting question, with its underlying belief that whose can only properly be applied to people, not to things. This has in the past been the firm rule of grammarians and generations of children have been taught it.

Modern authorities deny that any such rule exists. For example, in the first edition of Modern English Usage back in 1926, H W Fowler argued that the rule was no more than a folk belief and he was vehement about the rigidity it imposed. He ended his article “Let us, in the name of common sense, prohibit the prohibition of whose inanimate; good writing is surely difficult enough without the forbidding of things that have historical grammar, and present intelligibility, and obvious convenience, on their side”. All the other writers on usage that I have consulted say the same thing, with roughly equivalent degrees of exasperation. They all point to authors of impeccable credentials over the past 400 years who have used whose to refer to inanimate objects, including Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden, Addison, Pope, and Wordsworth. Even the (rather conservative) usage panel of the American Heritage Dictionary has no problem with it.

The basis for the rule is that whose is the possessive form of who, so strictly ought only to be used when persons are referred to. The problem is that English doesn’t have an equivalent possessive form for which or that, so we must either not use one at all, or borrow whose. Writers from medieval times onwards have taken the second course, mainly because it leads to smoother prose than the inverted clauses that are required by of which, as you have illustrated. As the Merriam Webster Dictionary of English Usage remarks, the result is that this is one disputed usage which is more common in the works of good writers than bad ones.
